Deer Lake on Bastille Day

It is Canada's 150th birthday.  This year we wanted to spend our vacation in Canada.  After seeing the gorgeous commercials from Newfoundland and Labrador, and loving the north (at least from our previous northern excursion) , we decided to make northern Newfoundland and Labrador our goal this year.

By chance, our departure was set to July 14th -- Bastille Day -- and Richard who loves all things French, ensured that I knew this with blustering attempts at the Marseillaise.  So here we have a rather odd juxtaposition of Deer Lake Labrador (to which we flew) and French nationalism.

It is early days and Gros Morne National Park awaits us (not be mention breakfast).  For now, here is the greeting board at the airport.
